This song honors our Gold Star Families. 'Colours Of December ' was written after a conversation Kelly had with DJ and Radio Promoter, Fred John Boenig, who's son Austin died in Afghanistan in 2010. He explained to Kelly that Blue Stars turning to Gold refers to the service flags people would place in their windows during wartime. A flag with a blue star meant a member of that family or organization was serving in the war. If the blue star was replaced with a gold star, this indicated that the soldier had died in battle. Kelly first saw the need for support while living with her uncle , Roger Truman, before and after he served in Vietnam. He survived but his life was forever changed.
